Gorilla Antics
Hello Harp Techs, remember that Easttop brass chromatic harmonica that I reviewed a few weeks ago? Well, I got careless by placing this heavy harmonica on my armchair, then with my elbow, accidently knocked it off onto the hardwood floor, landing on the BUTTON!
You guessed it--the button snapped off the slider. Good thing I’m the Harpsmith. This accident produced a new topic to submit to the Forum ;o)
Select a Dremel rotary cutting tool that will closely match the width of the slider
Carefully secure the button between non-scratching vise jaws, then slot notch the button with the Dremel cutting tool
I was a little off center, but this will not impact the final result
Usually I would have silver soldered the button onto the slider, but for this project I decided to use the Super Glue by Gorilla
Here, I’m using my bench drill press as an extra steady set of hands. Notice the right angle square to perfectly set the slider alignment
Passing the opposite end of the slider through the Blue Masking tape, then securing the tape onto the top of the drill press table ensured motionless drying of the slider and button.
After the Gorilla Super Glue has thoroughly cured, remove any residue, then re-assemble the slider back into position.
Whew--I definitely dodged a bullet on this one. Back on the bandstand I go!
Your Harpsmith, Kinya
