EINSTEIN'S HARP MIC
It's a question that gets asked on a regular basis, often tinged with an air of hopefulness. I've been hearing it for over twenty years -maybe with greater frequency now than ever before: What microphone will sound BEST for harp with every amp or system, at every volume, in every key? In essence, is there a 'unified field theory' for harpmics? Albert Einstein was frustrated that he could not find such a model that would apply to EVERYTHING in the universe, from the very tiny to the very huge. It's a similar situation with amplified harp...
Beyond the SIZE/SCALE aspect of workability, there are factors that play very heavily for or against a harpmic's success under a given circumstance or application. Notable among these factors are the IMPEDANCE and FREQUENCY RESPONSE of the mic's element. Sure, there are other defining factors as well, but if these two are unworkable or simply a poor match for the amp, you're facing a daunting task in making Einstein happy with the fit.
YOUR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: I want you to report on specific combinations of HARPMICS and AMPLIFICATION SYSTEMS you've found that deliver the goods -especially those that you've happened upon that may not be recognized as coin-of-the-realm sonic solutions and those involving modern day amplification adapted for Harp. There may not be A SOLUTION, but there are MANY SOLUTIONS... On your mark, get set, GO...
