Thomas Sterner's The Practicing Mind: Developing Focus and Discipline in Your Life - Master Any Skill or Challenge by Learning to Love the Process (New World Library 2012) is one of the books that David recommends. I found a copy in our local public library, and recently finished it. It's a relatively quick read, and full of things that most of us know instinctively, but it is also a wonderful reminder of the importance of focusing on the elements of practice, without over-emphasizing "goals." And particularly for harmonica players, it provides an understanding that none of us will at any particular time in our journey ever be as good at it as we'll each be in a few days, a few weeks, or decades from this moment, so long as we continue to enjoy our practice time. It's a lifelong thing.
