Romel Harmonica Reed Rivet Tool
Hello Harp Techs, recently I made contact with Bill Romel’s widow. Betty confirmed that she is making available the Romel Reed Rivet Tool. Affordably priced at $50 (plus shipping costs), this simple tool is made with precision acrylic and tempered steel punches and anvils:
This side has the pointed punch with rivet head pass-through anvil for punching out the reed rivet.
This side has the flat tipped punch and anvil for setting factory rivets. Full disclosure, the Harpsmith never replace rivets, instead, I drill, then tap and screw the reeds in place with 0-80 fasteners.
Shown here for size comparison, notice that the enlarged hole size of the anvil will easily receive the rivet head.
Once the faulty reed has been identified, insert it’s rivet head into the receiving anvil.
Next, position the point of the punch dead center over the shaft of the rivet, then tap with a light weight steel hammer. The spent rivet will drop into the receiving anvil.(tip: spent rivets will accumulate inside the anvil, so tip over the anvil from time to time to clean out the spent rivets) Notice how the slot that was milled out of the acrylic body will allow ample clearance for the reed plate.
Betty Romel will receive orders through her email account <msbeta_22@hotmail.com>
