THE SEAL OF APPROVAL, PART 2...
You may remember our last WEEKLY MIC MORSEL dealt with the secured sealing of a mic's element inside its shell or body. Let's move outside the mic for that other crucial sealing point: BETWEEN HAND AND MIC. Particularly in the case of smaller diameter dynamic microphones such as the SHURE 545 where's no "ball" or rib to grip, it may take conscious effort to hold the mic in place between the heels of your hands while cupping the harp. How about a cheap assist? Try experimenting with these two commodities: Foam bicycle handlebar grip sleeves; 3M SCOTCH 130C rubber splicing tape (Hey, it's good up to 600 volts! ). The foam sleeve material can be cut to any length you deem practical, compresses, and has a nice grip-friendly texture. The rubber splicing tape can be applied in layers and is self-adhering. They'll both aid in mic management -as you get a grip!
