THE SEAL OF APPROVAL, PART 2...
You may remember our last WEEKLY MIC MORSEL dealt with the securing and sealing of the mic's element inside its shell. Let's now move outside to have a look at the other significant seal: Between your harpmic and your hands.
Particularly in the case of smaller diameter mics -with such dynamic models as the SHURE 545 where there's no 'ball' or 'rib' to assist with positioning and grasp- a great deal of conscious energy can be focused toward simply keeping the mic between the heels of your hands. TRY THESE FOR A SIMPLE CHEAP ASSIST: Foam bicycle handlebar sleeves; 3M Scotch 130C Rubber Splicing Tape (HEY! It's good up to 600 volts!). The foam sleeves are easily cut to any configuration you'd like, compress nicely, and provide a nice texture. The rubber slicing tape is self-adhesive and can be wrapped to varying widths and thicknesses if you like. Experiment! They could help YOU get a grip!
