SOLVENTS of CHOICE: PART2 GLUE -THE WAY of SPRAY
As a follow-up to Part1 and Part1A wherein we got a handle on cleaning, preserving, and re-using vintage grillcloth inserts with the SHURE 707 as an example: Since I referred to "spray-on contact cement" let's elaborate on a couple details... The glues I'm referring to as "contact cement" will go by that moniker or "spray adhesive", sometimes "mounting adhesive" when marketed in the graphic arts and photo production fields. I've found the prices increase as the product's purpose becomes more selective/specialized. Thus, the best prices are among the generic "contact spray adhesives". 3M makes many of my favorite products in the field of adhesives, and they do make a W-I-D-E variety packaged as both 3M and Scotch Brand. Elmer's and Locktite market their own brands but with fewer specialty applications. The types marketed as "Mounting" and "Re-positionable" are less permanent and -as indicated- can be an assist if you don't get it right the first time. Fact is, any one of these products will do the grillcloth job -and you might be inspired to laminate a table top or re-affix some loose molding.
MIC MORSEL(A): Read the labels. Look for the ones that "dry clear" -a somewhat relative term.
MIC MORSEL(B): Don't want to spring the big bux to buy the pro adhesive? Borrow a can of hairspray. You'll be amazed how well it works -and no one will make any jokes about your grillcloth not being soft and manageable.
