THE SWITCHCRAFT 332A ADAPTOR
This week's MORSEL has to do with staying connected and limiting your liabilities.
The 5/8" X 27 thread-on output connectors so common on the Art Deco-inspired mics used by harpsters depend on YOU to keep them healthy. While I'm a big proponent of these (the Switchcraft 2501 and Amphenol MC-1 are company trade names for the same device) when coupled to a quality cable, these quality thread-on to 1/4" cables are not common. Your cable fails, you're out of luck and off the stage. Carrying a back-up is a wise idea. In this case, your 'back-up' consists of a SWITCHCRAFT 332A. It's an adaptor that threads onto the mic's output connector and enables the use of a standard 1/4" phoneplug-equipped instrument cable (mooch one from your over-equipped guitar player). While I don't subscribe to their constant use (they're heavy, they wear out & readily disconnect), I will say that they have no effect on sound as they are innert, inactive, passive connections from one point to the next -and can really save the day in the event your thread-on cable goes bye-bye on you. The SWITCHCRAFT 332A. It's a lifesaver, not a breath mint...
