TALK TO THE GLOVE
REPORTING FROM THE NAMM CONVENTION IN ANAHEIM...
Yep, I'll be delving into what's happening harpmic-wise at the winter NAMM show. BUT FIRST! I want to revisit a subject that doesn't get much coverage -and this is a timely opportunity to bring it up: Staying healthy by avoiding the "bugs" in our personal environments. Events of any kind where you are in close proximity with many many people, sharing airspace and EQ, doing the meet-and-greet, and shaking countless hands demands extra precautions to prevent (or at least minimize the chance of) nasty microorganisms from hitch-hiking their way into your body and causing any number of infections that will compromise your ability to jockey that tin sandwich, sing, stand upright. "SICK!". You don't want your respiratory system compromised. It lowers your effectiveness, the pleasure factor of playing, and isn't something you can take off like a necktie.
WHAT TO DO: Digging thru piles of old gear at a swap shop or thrift store? As well as being great for winding cords after the gig and packing-up, latex or nitril gloves do an amazing job of keeping the scum and the "BUGS" out. In circumstances where you're shaking lots of hands, handling other people's microphones and such -like here at NAMM,
carrying and using anti-bacterial wipes might even enable you to make it thru that next gig without the aid of a doctor.
