Tip to Newbies or those who have trouble with theory
I've been zipping through the videos to get an overview. Much later down in the course David goes into detail on bass lines. This is awesome for me because I can take that info and learn those on my cello and guitar. David teaches you in that section how to play the bass lines on the harmonica (pretty simple stuff really) in order to get the theory into your body and get an intuitive feel for the theory. It's great and I think it's going to help me a lot with getting the theory into my body.
Another thing I really appreciated was his section on the parts of a song. That gave me a stronger footing I think for when I'm listening to songs and trying to learn his. When you are stopped early on to practice something, going ahead and listening to that to keep you going here might not be a bad idea.
A part that gives a great overview too are the parts where he interviews his band. They go over all the grooves which gives you an idea of the kinds of beats and styles that you might come across and not recognize or know that you don't know yet - as a newbie. Before heading out to even a beginner or playing with any other musician, those would be good to watch.
There's a lot of things that I found helpful as a newbie further on in the course. It's not like the course goes in exact order.
It's also motivating to see and hear what I will be able to do one day if I really stick with it.
Also, if just a tiny bit different (maybe one day it will be) I would recommend this site to anyone learning other instruments who want to understand the blues. I'm adapting it to myself for that purpose. I'm already now pretty good at the blues ukulele after a few weeks of hanging out here! There are a great deal of overview of the blues sections that aren't specific to the harmonica and some of the sections you don't even need a harmonica.
If you zip through and watch the intros to the videos (all the intros are super short) you will get a quick understanding of which videos might be interesting to you before you are even ready to go to the next step of your harmonica playing instruction.
Anywho, hope that helps someone.
