TOO TIGHT? CONNECTOR LUBE
While an old toothbrush can work wonders then it comes to dislodging particulates and grime from the connectors, fasteners, and grills of Lord Microphone, its powers are limited where mechanical fit is an issue.
For example: Different companies have varying tolerances in the components they produce. This can become an issue when dealing with a mic's output connectors, where performance depends on a secure contact. It's likely you'll run across connectors by a variety of companies. Common in our world are associated names like SWITCHCRAFT, NEUTRIK, AMPHENOL, CANNON, etc. It's also becoming more common to find 'offshore'-produced components in manufactured goods and as replacements that really do not match-up all that well with the name brands they are mimicking. In some cases of record, cross-pollinating different manufacturer's versions of the SAME functional item simply did not mate properly. My general rule is to use mating components from the same manufacturer.
If you should find you're experiencing a slight mismatch -in the case of the THREAD-ON style of connector, for instance- and the fit is unnaturally tight, my recommendation is to apply a drop of TRI-FLOW. It's a lubricant that comes in both squeeze bottles and aerosol. Its uses go way beyond the old "3-in-1" household oil or even WD-40. It's a big favorite of bicycle shops (where I first encountered it). It contains Teflon, the slippery stuff Ronald Reagan was said to be coated with. Unlike oil, TRI-FLOW has little mass and doesn't attract & hold particulates as readily. And like the Brylcreem of old, a little dab'll do ya.
