WEEKLY MORSEL: FEEDBACK
FEEDBACK!
-Not the good kinds (like applause, tips, open bar tap), but the type that causes all manner of grief with your performance, bandmates, patrons, in-laws: Sonic oscillation, the dance of resonant frequencies. Avoiding it is crucial. In reading posts dealing with feedback it becomes clear that the RELATIONSHIP between the player, the microphone, and the amplifier are the chief components to the formula. There lies the problem and the solution. The player's perceptions and awareness are indispensable in HEARING the problem and dialing the solution. Often, simply realizing that inappropriate doses of treble/bass/volume are at play can guide you toward the solution.
It's clear that on a case by case basis, there are MIC/AMP combos that work far better for individuals in this regard than others -and while discussion of anti-feedback devices has its place, I would caution the harpster against making the 'modern consumer' mistake of believing that buying a product -any product- will miraculously solve your problems. KEEP EXPERIMENTING! (Offer void where prohibited. Your reality may vary).
