What to Tell the Band - “Rocker” by Little Walter
Your speech...
1) Key of "E"
2) "Swing" ...with ii-V-I if they ask...
3) "From the I" (One Chord)
Make sure to listen to the song in your head for a moment before counting the band in... otherwise you'll most likely count in too fast.
Also, in the original, Walter starts on Bar 1 and the band comes in on Bar 2... don't expect this... it's not standard and you'll just throw everyone off if you ask for it... just count them in and go. Another interesting thing is that the guitar plays a cool boogie-woogie bass line for the first chorus and then the bass comes in at the 2nd Chorus. Also note how fluid the band is... they change their feel every couple of choruses... man, what a band!
We're done talking about "Rocker," after you study it and record it, post it on "Share" on the website. Enjoy your study of this great song!
