Wind Saver Tools and Methods
Hello Harp Techs,
Remember that bone-head move I did back in April--when I left my new Grand Symphony chromatic harmonica on the radiant room heater too long? As a result of the heat exposure, all 60 windsavers angulated (curved upwards) and left me with an unusable harmonica. I finally decided to right my wrong by replacing all the damaged windsavers with new.
It was a wonderful opportunity to try out a couple of gluing aids that I had purchased from MicroMark, then evaluate whether (or not), it would improve the windsaver replacement process.
First thing first:
Peel off all the damaged windsavers
Scrape off glue residue
With the Mini Loop Applicator (Item #: 81669), I was hoping to gain more control over the dosage of glue required, but was more disappointed that I spent $8.95--so I can not recommend this tool.
Essentially, the Glue/Custom Color Dispenser (Item #: 82031) was a step up from my usual toothpick applicator routine. The weighted toothpick holder was handy, however, the Pattex Repair Gel would set up too fast in the dispenser cup.
The initial order comes with 20 disposable cups
Although I found the weighted toothpick holder to be useful, simply dipping my toothpick into the Pattex Repair Gel, held in place with my vise, proved to be my favorite tried and true method for applying the adhesive on to the reed plate, then applying the windsaver.
