2 notes combination
Hello David,
So I've been going through your lessons and there's two things that are bothering me( not about the lessons but about my playing, your lessons are fantastic).
1- two note combinations : do you tongue block the 2 note combinations when you play them ? I'm pretty sure I haven't heard you slap them so I'm wondering if we never end up slapping them should we still hold a tongue block ? Naturally speaking my mouth seems to wana pucker those notes. If I tongue block them I can almost never get them first try; I'm usually too narrow and then I end up with a single note so I have to adjust and by then I'm off tempo.
2- tss articulation on chords : I remember that from lesson lvl 1 ( I'm at the start of lesson lvl 2 right now ) but at the time I didn't really get it right and I haven't practiced it since so I'd like to know if there's anymore material I can go through to practice that articulation. I'm not sure what I'm doing or not doing but it doesn't sound anything like what you're doing haha.
Thanks for your time,
Regards,
Chris
Keep at it, you'll get it... it's just part of the path... be patient. My pleasure.
Hello Chris. Answers below...
1) Yup, they're all tongue blocked. To help put your mind at ease, you'll tongue block everything from holes 2 and above, with your tongue to the left, and hole 1 with your tongue to the right (or pucker the 1, if that's how you chose to play the 1). The only time your tongue is off of the harmonica is when Chording (like I show you in Solo Harmonica Study 1, ex. 1.2 is done with your tongue off of the harmonica). For the two-note combination, focus on playing the bottom note and smirking, or moving slight to the right (as you open your mouth, you don't want less of the lower note). Keep at it, you'll get it.
2) I only have one place on the sight, and that's Solo Harmonica Study 1, Ex. 1.7. The technique is to use the "ts" sound while the front of your lips are barely touching the harmonica. Don't focus on blowing through the harp, focus on making the ts sound.
