My 4 blow on one of my 2 Special 20s in A, every few minutes, will not sound for a split second then start out flat for another split second and then sound correctly. I plinked  the reed several times in case there was something on it, but it's still doing it. When it does start working it will sound fine and blow freely, but if I don't use the 4 blow for even a couple of minutes, I then experience the original problem again. Any suggestion?

Hello mainmark37. It sounds

Hello mainmark37. It sounds like excessive spit is the culprit. I recommend you tap out your harmonica more often. Also use a lighter touch on the face of the harmonica with your tongue. Lastly, and most importantly (until your technique grows to the point where you're spiting less into the harmonica)... head up (use gravity to keep spit in your mouth, preventing it from drooling into the harmonica).

It looked rather funky

Thanks David, I sorta figured as much. The blow reed plate looked rather funky. I think it's high time for a cleaning!

BTW, nice bass. Sounds good too. I played bass in a drummerless band in my late teens. Had to have a good sense of timing!

Besides the harmonica, which is currently my primary focus, I play some blues guitar these days.

I'm really thankful for your amazing site, and the opbvious care you have for all of us out here.

Ah, perfect... the funkiness

Ah, perfect... the funkiness tells! ;-)

Thank you for your kind words. That's great that you also play guitar, it all helps!
