Accompaniment playing, chords selection
Hello David,
In the accompaniment studies 2 and 3 you focus on chords I, IV, and V. Why do you skip the II, III, VI, and VII?
In the accomapaniment study 2, you have a plot with sqares where each chord is repeated for several bars. Is there a rule how many times each chord has to be repeated, when chord change must happen, or a "form/sequence" that 12 bars should contain?
In the accompanimanet study 3, you mentioned that as you play you think bout what chord comes next? Is there a rule or patron we should look for to know that a specific chord will be comming or is apropriate?
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Anton
Hello Anton. Answers below...
1) We focus on the I, IV, and V because these are the chords the standard 12 Bar Blues Progression uses (99% of the blues you will play with use this progression).
2 and 3) The 12 Bar Blues sequence/progression is standard, so yes, you can count on those chords being the same for most blues. I will later (Music Theory Study 6) teach you how to deal with non-12 Bar Blues chord changes (this is more advanced).
