Accompaniment Study 4 - Fills
Hi, David. I've been working on AS4, example 2.3 for about two weeks. My result is that I can easily distinguish between playing along with the vocals and playing without the vocals and adjusting my volume accordingly, which I believe was the principal lesson of 2.3. However, improvising and playing on the fly is still a challenge. I understand the concepts but the execution is rough.
I've been practicing 12 bars at a stretch through most of the song and recording them in Garageband. Each 12-bar segment may need to be recorded a few times till I find a version I like. I'm certainly not improvising on the fly most of the time, although there is some of this too.
So, my question is this: Should I continue in 2.3 till I've perfected it or or move on to 2.4?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Ace. You don't have to improvise on the fy... you can find/write cool fills and work on fitting them in. What you have to write now, you'll be able to improvise in the future. You can move on, but play 2.3 once a day to allow it to get better over time.
