Amp hum and fluorescent lighting
Tue, 03/10/2015 - 10:08
Skip, I have isolated a hum in my Alamo Embassy to fluorescent lights in my shop where I practice. Do you have any solution to the problem? Practicing in the dark?, thought of that one already! I guess incandescent lighting also, but I was hoping something else might work so I don't have to change or add lighting. I'm not wanting to practice somewhere else either.
Thanks,Doug
Hello Doug- Thanks for writing. Flourescent lights, dimmers, cordless phones, cell phones, and probably some other stuff can all cause an annoying buzz in your amp. The much-maligned "death cap" is actually a filter designed to eliminate those types of noise, but it may have been removed by a well-meaning "tech." Try reversing the polarity of the AC by flipping the plug over in the socket- if you have a grounded cord, you will need one of those old adaptors to change your three-prong to two. Otherwise, better bring down a lamp with a good ol' 100 watt bulb in it!
