I have read all your amp reviews with great interest, but now my mate is practically giving away his marshall DSL15 head and MX112 cab for a very good price if im wanting it.....Powered by two 6V6 power valves with four ECC83s in the preamp, the DSL15H might be small, but its guts are as serious as its big brother, the DSL100H.
Iwonder if i used a new attenuator if i could be onto something good for home use, otherwise he will sell it for a lot more if its no good for me........thanks for your time David.
Hello brianleon.
The Marshalls I've tried were way too gainy, fed back like crazy, and overly distorted... basically unusable. With that said, I have not tried that model, so that might not be the case for that model.
An attenuator is usually used for the opposite reason... you want to turn up your amp to get more distortion from it, and then attenuate your volume before it hits the speaker. Your goal will be to make it cleaner, which I think will only work with a cleaner mic.
Search online to see if any other harp players have used this model. If they have, see if they did any tube swaps. And of course, try the amp. Use the cleanest setting possible (more volume, less gain, or no gain if you can). If you like the sound, then you're good to go. If you find it fussy, and hard to control without feedback, then no matter the price, it won't be a good tool for you.
