Hello Steven. Use articulation when you want to separate notes (playing the same pitch multiple times), separate a standard note from its bend (such as 2 and then 2", or the reverse 2" to 2) or when you want a note to stand out.
We don't tend to articulate a lot, since we commonly move from breath to breath (draw to blow for example), hole to hole (2 to 3, where no articulation is needed) or are slapping.
When not doing those things, we commonly use a slight cough (same muscles used for tremolo) for your blow notes and KA for your draw notes (KU for bends).
