Articulations for Rhythm Practice
Hello Dave,
I am practicing the Rhythms in Level 1 of your courses using single holes (2Draw or 4Blow) to go through the various rhythms that you have provided. Should I be using different articulations on blows and draws for say quarter, eights, triplets and sixteenth notes? if so, what are the articulations for these different grouping of notes? Thanks, JT
My pleasure. As a subscribed member, you have access to all material on the site (new and old). The site redesign will not change anything for subscribers, just a new layout and added functionality.
Hello JT. Generally speaking, I avoid articulations at this level in the lessons. The goal is to keep your embouchure open and just breathe through the harmonica with good tone.
The rhythm training lesson is a special case... it's not really about playing the harmonica, it's about training one's rhythm. So, in this case, with the faster rhythms, you're right, you will need articulation.
The default articulation for draws are K and for blows it's a slight cough (not forceful... the same muscles used for the tremolo). Try to keep the jaw lowered and throat open for the K, it's easy to accidentally bend when using the K.
