Big nosed blues harp player
Hello Everybody;
My name is Steve from Switzerland. I have just signed up for the classes. I have been playing for 7 months now.
Here is my question now: I have a big nose, not freakingly big but big enough so that when I hold my Marine Band my nose is always on the way with my fingers. Is that something normal or I am not holding the harmonica well?
Thanks;
Steve
Yes, I have the same issue, and I hold harmonica like pen - with left end on the top of the webbing, not inside.Like Winslow suggested.
It gives room for nose, strong support and I can push harmonica deeper in the mouth, which gives me better tone.
Are your fingers along the back edges of the covers? The back of each cove has a raised curve ending in a ridge. Try placing your fingers along the inside of that curve, to get them as far back on the covers as possible. This puts more idstance between your fingers and nose and also lets you get more of he harmonica in your mouth.
Another thing you can do is to rest the left end of the harmonica on top of the webbing between your forefinger and thumb, instead of pressing the end of he harmoncia into the webbing. Again, this raises the harmonica in front of your fingers, puting the fingers farther away and presenting more of the covers to get into your mouth.
