Billy Boy Armonld
Hi, I just watched the Billy Boy Arnold interview. He said he plays on the oppisite side of the harp. It looks like Paul Butterfield played the same way. Are they turning the harp upside down and blowing 2nd position instead of drawing on the harp or did they do something with reed plates? Thanks
Butterfield, Terry, Arnold, William Clarke, among others. Sort of as if they're "left-handed." If you play the "regular" way, just for fun flip your harp over, and tongue block with your tongue moving right instead of left, going to the right side for the lower holes. And if you can actually play decent sounding notes (including bends) - something I don't plan to spend any time on - try it on stage when there are other harp players and the audience and see if they notice!
I think they just Flipped the Harp Upside Down so that the Cover Plate with the numbers was Facing Down.
The 2 Draw is the Still the Root in 2nd Position but now it is on the Right Side of the Harp (Opposite Side).
BTW
Sonny Terry also played Upside Down.
