Blues Junior 4
Sat, 06/06/2020 - 04:55
Hi,
I have a Blues Junior 4, latest model, which is greatly modernised from previous models, I have changed the pre amp tubes to a 55% less gain set from Watford Valves.
I have a Bulletini mic and a Hohner Harpblaster mic.
I would like to know what settings to use to get a nice warm tone from this amp with these mics , or what else to do to it, its not a bad amp but just needs tweaking .
Thanks
Roger
Hello Roger. I'll answer this, since Skip focuses on repair/modification of classic amps.
As you might already be aware, there's a whole group of people out there who like to mod the Blues Junior (and there are sites and FaceBook groups dedicated to it). It sounds like you've already made the basic tube mods (which is as much as I do with an amp).
You have two good mics. The Bulletini will give you more bass, if that's what you're after.
I have lessons on dialing in an amp (https://www.bluesharmonica.com/amps_what_you_need_know and https://www.bluesharmonica.com/amp_tone_settings) and one reviewing a recent Junior (https://www.bluesharmonica.com/amp_reviews), but it's pretty straight-forward... adjust the tone stack (bass/mid/treble) to your liking (commonly treble on 2, mid 2-4 range, and bass almost all the way up on Fenders) and experiment with different combinations of volume/master until you get the distortion level you like.
Congrats on the amp, it's a nice one.
