Cadillac Repo Blues
"Cadillac Repo Blues" is the first solo harmonica song I have written. In fact it is the first song of any type that I have written. I have been playing the harmonica for 1 1/2 years. The song was written as part of my lessons with David Barret on improvisation. It is in the Key of E, has a shuffle groove, is in the 12 Bar Blues form, starts from the 1 chord, and the backing instrumental is from the Bluesharmonica.com "Temperature" jam track.
Based on what I have learned from David I am now writing harmonica accompanyments and 12 and 24 bar solos for traditional blues songs so I can perfrom (sing and play harmonica) at blues jams and with my band: The Rockin' Blues Experience (wwwmyspace/.rockinbluesexperience.com).
I hope that you enjoy it.

Well done Joe, keep up the great work!
Good job! I doubt I sounded
Good job!
I doubt I sounded that good at a year and a half! Stick with it. You have real potential.
sounds like tongue blocking...
You're smart to keep it simple at this stage and I think that you've got space going for you already. Now you need to work on articulation and bends. Octives too. Pretty good first song. It sounds like you're tongue blocking it -right?
I would try to copy the old harp players on CD now if I were you. Good start!
Joe, you have a great ideas
Joe, you have a great ideas in your recording! I like your approach to the sound of harmonica
Movin Along!
After watching all the Videos Joe its great to hear the end result-it moves along really well & kept me listening all the way! Great work!
Yeah!!
Watching the videos gives one a true sense of how much work goes into this. Take pride in what you have accomplished Joe - nice use of tremolo, tongue slaps, note bleeds and articulation. You've come along way baby!!
Yeah!
Thank you for the complement.
Hey Joe - whats you doin with
Hey Joe - whats you doin with that harp in your hand... "I'm goin downtown to play harp for some blues lovin lady and steal her away from the guitar man"... The disipline I hear in your playing is admirable at this stage of the learning process, I'm really curious what you'll sound like few years from now cause your sounded mighty fine already!
Hey Frank
Hey Frank - I like the play on the "Hey Joe". I am my own worst critic so I do think about what I will sound like in the future. Right now my sound is "too thin". I need better harp amplification. Using my wife's guitar amps do not give me a muddy or thick enough sound. She is my blues lovin' lady who is the guitar girl!
Job well done!!!!!!!!!
Amazing how you sound after playing for 1 1/2 years. You can definitely hear that you're following the chord changes. Nice laidback shuffle feel and you never rushed it. Job well done Joe!!!!!!!!
All the best,
Steven Troch
Thank you
Thank you
Thanks
You're getting a really nice tone there and I like the way each chorus has its own identity. Also, thanks for letting us sit in on your lessons - they've been really useful.
Thanks
I am very conscious of the tone. Being a vocalist too I think of the harp as an extension of my voice so I notice the tone a lot. If my tone is off I hear it as if I was hearing myself sing an off note. David's lessons were instrumental (pun intended) in teaching me how to plan out the structure of the song. A interesting/entertaining head, then a softer chorus, then building up to a really strong chorus and then the ending. I also varied the riffs/notes/measures so the choruses would not sound repetitive. I paid a lot of attention to that.
Kool and the gang!
Hey Joe! We've all watched your lessons on the site and there's lots to be learned from your trials and tribulations. Great effort for the Shuffle King and a good display of your developing skills. Good job!
Thank you Rob
