Hi Skip, my danelectro 272 amp is makes a crackling sound when first turn it on amp , then after it warms up it goes away. I was thinking it might be a resistor ? Is there a way to test the resistors to pin point the one that's bad?
Yea I'm on a soldering bindge:)! I was poking around the amp today and I think the sound is coming from the black wire with the phono type plug that connects the top control panel to the bottom Chassis. The scratchy noise got louder when I touched the wire connecting to pin #2 on 12ax7 socket ( bottom chassis) .The pin has alittle corrosion on , the crackle scratchy sound kinda stopped after I scraped the pin a little with the wood chop stick, so I'm not gonna mess with it for now. I did find a resistor on the bottom 12ax7 pin #3 (4.7k) that the reading drifted up to the max 10% allowance , I should change that out correct. .?

Ah Bluevan! If you don't get to solder something pretty soon you're going to explode! I've been saying it for years and now I'll say it again: Proper servicing (especially mechanical connections like tube sockets, pots, and grounds) is absolutely the first step in trouble-shooting a noisy amp. Yes, it might be a resistor, but it might not. Measuring a resistor with a multimeter will tell you it's value, but not if it is contributing noise. Actually, you're pretty lucky that the noise goes away!
