Custom Combs
Hey Kinya. I have a couple of Marine Bands that were customized for me by a talented young man who was just starting out a couple of years ago. I wanted to help him at hi start up stage. He did an amazing job (that I'm just appreciating now) but as I got used to the size of the Seydels that I now use almost exclusively, I find the size of the MB to be small for my hands and difficult to switch back and forth if I want to use one of the MB's for a song.
Are there combs that are the same size as SP20's or Seydels that would accept the reed plates of the MB's? The harps are beautiful to look at and playand I suddenly thought I could still use them if I could be comfortable with he size. Or am I looking at drilling holes in the comb to accommodate the plate screws? I do have some SP20 old harps that I started on that I could use. I also see some combs advertised specifically for Marine Bands but I don't know what the size factor is.
Any advice or recommendations? Thanks
Hi Hank,
The most elegant solution I found is to mount your MB reed plates onto oversized combs. By oversized, I mean the slot spacing are identical to the MB, however, the outside dimensions match the Seydel (4 1/16" L x 1 1/8" W).
Although probably at SPAH right now, try contacting Randy Sandoval at Genesis Harmonicas at: info@genesisharmonicas.net
Let us know how it turned out for you.
