Diatonic - Chromatic excersice
Hi David! Since I have been focusing on bending lately I haven't been playing much chromatic. Trying to change that, I started practicing the rhumba blues rhythm (from solo harmonica study #2) on the G diatonic and learnt the same pattern on the C chromatic to get the 3rd position lines. Thinking in learning the same in other keys, Do you think this is a good excercise? Thanks!
I don't, since chromatic is not my main instrument, but check out George "Harmonica" Smith, Mark Hummel, Paul deLay, and Big Harp George... they all explore positions other than 3rd. There may be others, but I know for sure that they do.
Hello Norlo28. I'm a classic blues chromatic player, so I only play in 3rd Position (key of D) on the chromatic. Many accomplished blues chromatic players (I just fiddle with it), are also good in 1st (Key of C) and 2nd (Key of G). For those that wish to play the chromatic as a true chromatic instrument, they will practice everything they learn in all twelve keys. If you wish to be the latter, then yes, go for learning that example in all keys.
