Do you teach pucker playing at all?
Hi,
Last month I decided to finally jump in and do something I had on my mind for over 7 years - learn the harmonica. Got myself a 3-set of Hohner bluesband and a book ("Instant Harmonica: Quick and Easy Instruction for the Beginner"). I didn't even know about this website but my Hohner came with a free month so I figurd I'll register and see what the website is like.
The book I got starts with puckering - the very first chapter that talks about making a sound talks about puckering the lips until you can hit a single hole.
In the lessons here the very basic lesson of making single notes on the harmonica (in level 1 intro) is already doing it by tongue blocking.
Is there a reason you skip puckering altogether? I watched the videos on the FAQ and I assume it is because tongue-blocking is just a better technique to get used to so why not jump in to it right ahead?
Since I am starting from zero I want to get started with a good technique, but also something that will not be too frustrating, and puckering seems easier to just get started.
Cheers!
Hi David
For correct playing of single notes I use HarpNinja. What do I use for chords?
Michael
Hello Michael. There is no program that I am aware of that detects chords. Focus on listening to me and copying the sound the best you can.
Hello y.farkash, thank you for writing. Tongue blocking is the most common embouchure used in blues and has the most options for technique, this is why it will be your default embouchure. Best wishes on your studies.
