Drawing
Mon, 01/16/2017 - 08:03
ive been a member for just over five weeks and it's the first time I've ever done tongue blocking, the two problems I have is excess saliva which is hampering my improvement and on the draw notes sometimes I find that when I try to draw on a note I get no note at all, it feels like the harmonica is sticking to my lips and I have a suction with no note sounding, any suggestions thanks Dave
Hello Jaguar44.
In regards to saliva...
Play with your head up, allowing gravity to help keep saliva in your mouth instead of in the harmonica. Also make sure to use a light touch on the face of the harmonica. Not only is it an important technique for normal playing of the harmonica, it will also help with your saliva issue.
In regards to, "suction with no note sounding," it sounds like you're closing off the hole with your tongue, lips, or a little bit of both. Again, a light touch is very important. The Filisko Tongue Block Trainer (http://www.filiskostore.com/page/480389598) is extremely helpful to see what your tongue and mouth are doing. Watch the Blues Harmonica Fundamentals lesson again on how to tongue block a single note and it's also a good idea to watch Hob's lessons where I speak about it as well.
Keep it up... with focused study and time you'll get it.
