Extended Practice Opportunity
Hi David,
At the end of next week I am going to be spending about 18 hours over 3 days where I'll have the opportunity to get some extended practice in. I won't have the opportunity to use my computer or engage on my phone, other than an occasional one. I won't be able to follow along with sheet music or use any record/slow down software.
I've been away from playing for awhile and for the most part would be working on LOA 3 type material (or technique review of previous material).
Any thoughts on how I could structure this time to make it most beneficial? As well as how I can best prepare this week so I have what I need for this extended practice opportunity? (It likely will be a whole bunch of 20 min type sessions).
My initial thoughts are to include Scales work, maybe something that would be usiing a backing track to focus on improvisation skills and core root notes?
Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Hello Peter757.
This sounds like a great woodshed opportunity. If it were me, I would print out the study song (Feelin' for the Blues), Solo Harmonica Study 2, and as you mentioned, scales, folding up the sheets and throwing them in my back pocket.
Work mostly from memory, but pull the sheets out as you need them.
Work on bending as well, focusing on a nice slide smoothly from the natural pitch to the fullest depth you can achieve.
Root note practice is a good idea if you have time.
I would say focusing on improvising is better suited for when you have more study songs under your belt (when you have more learned licks... probably after LOA-L4).
Best wishes on a productive three days.
