I spoke with the Fender product manager in late spring or early summer. Fender claims that most harmonica players are guitar players who also happen to play a little harp. They may not be wrong in sheer numbers of people who own harmonicas. Accordingly, their initial offering was aimed at the casual player and consisted of Chinese harps that sold for low prices, with quality to match. He didn't want to send me samples as he felt that Fender's future plans would include harmonicas of a quality that he could share with a reviewer with greater confidence.
At that time the names of Lee Oskar and Seydel were part of the conversation. Some famous player names were also mentioned, but I was asked not to share those names yet.
I think the Fender harmonica line is worth watching. For the moment, however, serious players can look to the known harmonica manufacturers that offer good quality instruments. Fender may join that group.
