focus notes and texture
Hello David,
When rewriting the instrumental for focus notes and textures, do we still have to strictly keep all the chorus forms represented or is it a bit more flexible?
Also which should be the chorus with the most intense, climatic feel? On a song with 6 choruses I feel (and from what I’ve gathered being the most common) it should be the 4th, so in general around 2/3 of the song, in order to have the next chorus settling things down a bit before the return of the head. Does that make sense?
Could it also be the 5th, as it seems it would be the case (maybe not necessarily) by organizing the choruses from lowest to highest focus note? Is there any lesson where you talk about that?
Thank you
It's always the top note (the ear hears the top note... the bottom note adds fullness to the sound).
Hello miggyb00gie.
Use the Chorus Forms, but not all of them have to be present (it's okay to drop AAA or AAA with fills for example).
Generally, it's the last chorus before the head, though it could be the second to last, and the next chorus mellows things out before the head returns. Also, generally, Chorus Forms get more active as your instrumental progresses.
Take a look at your study songs, they perfectly represent chorus forms, focus notes, and soloing themes. Start with "Temperature." Improvising Study 2 covers focus notes, but if you want, you could go through the entire improvising series (just watch for the info) and you'll get a sense of all the cool soloing themes you can use.
