frustrated
I'm new here. I play a little piano (still learning) and always wanted to learn harmonica as well. I went to a musical instrument store to enquire and was shown a selection of harmonicas. As I was brand new to the instrument, he referenced a collection of Hohners and informed me it was best to have a couple of different ones to start on. I was given the "Old Standby" in C, informed that it was the most versatile one to have and was also given "The Big River Harp" in G which would be a good one to learn on. Inside was the code for 30 days free lessons which brought me here. When I put in the code, I was hoping it would take me to somewhere on the site relevant to the model(s) I purchased. One of the intro videos references 3 different models, none of which I have but seems clear I need an A harmonica which pretty much suggests that I just wasted my money and time. There's no other options discussed or info for what to do if you have something different. I'm also finding the site a bit less than intuitive and somewhat confusing. You're told to print a page, save another to your computer and that you'll be starting with lessons 1.1 to 1.7. I still can't find lesson 1.1. There's reference to other equipment such as microphones and amplifiers and use of itunes. I have the equipment but am confused at those things being a starting point to learning the harmonica? After more than an hour on the site, I've not yet had to pick up, handle or put my lips on a harmonica. Can I use either of my harmonicas for learning the instrument? If so, where would I find the first lesson for handling and addressing it?
Thanks
Welcome to the site newb64. There is an intro lesson for those with only the C Harmonica, and it's found here http://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/c_harmonica_intro_lesson. You don't need to go anywhere else... this C Harmonica study will keep you busy for 2-3 months. You will eventually use the harmonicas you purchased in later lessons (those are common keys, so it's not money wasted). Best wishes on your studies.
