G and C
Hi I have a G and a C harp- where do you suggest I start in the lessons? Thanks Patti
Patti: You've signed on to a great source of lessons, tips, information, and an all-around group of friendly and fun people. Welcome! Re David's use of the A diatonic for most lessons, and about harp keys in general, you might want to take a look at a reply I posted last night in this part of the Forum, responding to another fairly new student: https://www.bluesharmonica.com/general_site_questions_newbie
I want to echo what sacuker said. I wandered for about four months between various different sites and the rabbit hole of youtube videos until I finally settled on BluesHarmonica.com and am very glad I did. For me, the main benefit of this site is its structured approach. This is very much sit up before you crawl, crawl before you stand, stand before you toddle, toddle before you walk, walk before you run, but it works. Get the A harp, you won't regret it. FWIW, after a marine band, a manji, and three special 20s, I finally settled on the Rocket and now have a set of six plus one spare A harp I keep in my office for practice and generally to annoy my secretary (LOL). All the harps I have are professional quality, comparable to a Telecaster or Stratocaster guitar, but for a fraction of the cost even when calculating for a full set.
Hello Patti, welcome to the site. Though those are both good keys of harmonica (we commonly use six different keys of harmonicas as our standard set of keys), I do not use those for the beginning lessons. There is an intro lesson for those with the C Harmonica, and it's found here http://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/c_harmonica_intro_lesson. After this lesson, if you decide to continue, you'll need to pick up an A Harmonica. Best wishes on your studies.
