gapping question
So, thanks to the great resources here I've become moderately more competant at gapping, minor tuning, etc. but I feel like I'm stuck in one respect.
I love Marine Bands and - like many who love them - am trying desperately to make the out of the box version playable.:) One thing that keeps happening is being unable to find the sweet spot between too much gap and too little.
For example, I'm currently working on a D harp that is mostly fine except for the 2 draw which chokes out very easily when bending. So I narrow the gap on the blow reed and wala! it bends great! However, now the 2 BLOW chokes out when I hit it hard. Okay, so I widen the gap until the 2 blow works cleanly, but now the bend is back to being weak and prone to choking out.
I find myself going back and forth and never really able to find a setting that allows both the blow note AND the bends to work optimally.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm so close to having a really good playing harp, but I can't quite get it.:)
