Gizmo

Hi, Greg.
This year at Hill Country you were demo'ing mics on a little gizmo that you plugged headphones in to...I think it might have even had some amp models in there. I was thinking it would be a cool thing to practice with, and that there might be a way to use it as a super-compact recording interface to use with the computer for practicing as well.
Would you mind sharing the details about it, and your thoughts on its uses (other than showing how awesome your mics are!).
Thanks.
Mark H.
HI, Mark
That was a Korg Pandora PX Mini - you can find out all about it at http://www.korg.co.uk/products/effects/pandora_pxmini/fx_pxmini.php
It lists for something like $225 but all the major resellers have them for $99 - like http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/korg-pandora-mini-pxmi...
I bought that little guy specifically to allow people to demo mics through headphones at shows where amplifiers aren't allowed. It does the job nicely and it really is a nice product. I think it would be great for practice and home recording. For practice, it has a nice feature enabling you to plug in an MP3 player and mix that sound with the effected sound from the main (guitar/mic) input. Although I am curious, I have only tried it through a live sound system for all of about 5 minutes. In that period I concluded a real amp sounds better, AND most of the preset models were going to be way too feedbacky through a PA. It is very possible that this could be dialed in with some experimentation and adjustment - but I just can't say for sure. I have carried it in the car as a potential backup in case my amp ever fails while I'm on a gig - but fortunately - that hasn't happened!
Cheers
/Greg
