Glisando to the 1 when tongue switching
Hello Dave,
Ever since I have joined bluesharmonica.com, I have been tongue switching to the 1.
Now I am at Accompaniment study 4 and there is a passage with a glisando to the 1. I find it a bit difficult to approach because now I would need to retrain myself to pucker the 1 with my tongue on "the wood".
What is the common way to approach that for people that primarily tongue switch for the 1?
Just an Idea I woke up with and did not try yet, but would it be common to start the glussando to the 1 with my tongue on the right for the sake of being consistent, or would you recommend that I try and master it with my tongue on the left?
Thanks in advance!
Angel
Hello Angel. Keep your tongue to the right, there's no difference in how the technique is approached for pucker and tongue switching. What you're probably missing is that you'll need to move to the right (your entire mouth) so that you have room to gliss to the left. For example... if the lick was 3 2 gliss-1, you would play 3 2, then move to the right (not playing... not sounding any notes as you move to the right) so that your gliss would be something like 4-3-2-1. Make sense?
