For those who've just entered earth's atmosphere, the SHURE 520DX is the current incarnation of the venerable SHURE "GREEN BULLET", long-time staple in the field of amplified harmonica. The DX utilizes a large format dynamic element whereas the preceding variations contained some form of the "Controlled-Magnetic" element developed for speech communitations.
The good news is that the 100K potentiometer furnished with the DX will work just fine with the CM element. While you've planned to step back into the 520's earlier incarnation thru transplant surgery, you might consider this as an opportunity to lose the hard-wired cable it's supplied with and make the mic modular -thus safeguarding against "dead in the water" syndrome -which is what you'll be if the hard-wired connection should bag on you during a gig or jam. -Fritz
