Gretsch G5222 5 watt amp compared to larger amp like the Cruncher

Hi,
I have a Gretshe G5222 which I feel sounds good practicing in my bedroom. Will I get alot more bottom from a larger
amp like the cruncher without turning the volume up where it blows me out of my bedroom. :)
Can you get a comparible bottom end with a smaller amp? I am not looking for something I would take out to Gig but still want the
best tone.
Thanks

Thanks for writing. This is a tough one to answer without writing a book.....
If you are a handy guy, you could rig up a larger speaker cab. That would certainly increase the low end.
You could buy another new amp that sounds better to you, but that Gretsch is only $200! I would say play it while you take a little time to see what your options are. Of course I would suggest a cool old amp, but I am pretty biased towards vintage stuff. There are lots of high-quality new harp amps as well, but if you decide to go for a vintage or a new quality-made amp, you will be stepping up to a much higher price bracket. I'm not a harp player, but I've been told that a real key to good bass is the "seal" you make with your hands around the harp, but of course the bass that is possible from a small cabinet with a 6" speaker will always be limited.
