Harmonica Full Time
Hi David,
Hope you're well.
I want to concerntrate my studies/playing of the harmonica on a full time basis and write to ask your opinion on a structure I could follow based upon the fact that I can spend upto 5 hours a day doing so. I'm dedicated to BluesHarmonica.com. to get me there.
My ambition is to play live to an audience most probably jam sessions to start with and see how that goes. At some stage in the future I would like to teach.
I don't need this to provide an income (possibly just as well ha!) but I do want to achieve a very high level of playing ability with a rounded and grounded base, I don't want to miss out or take short cuts on any of the basics.
So I suppose I'm trying to work out all of the elements that will get me to my goal and how much time should be spent on each one. I see the following as the core stuff:-
1) Practice of study pieces
2) Study of scales
3) Study of techniques
4) Playing live experience
On reflection there may be no formula for this other than to keep head down and work through the Levels of Achievement, I do however have a massive drive to do this and plenty of time available. Maybe the Aki Kumar model?
I very much appreciate you are a busy bloke David, any guidance woudl be of course appreciated.
cheers
Greg
Hello Greg. Sounds like you're on fire for the harmonica, very cool. And even cooler you have the time. Yes, "keep head down and work through the Levels of Achievement" is the way to go, I have all of the areas you need (including performance training) to becoming a great player (the lesson plan is there, you don't need to look any further). Also make sure to spend time on the support study material, these will help lead you to being a well-rounded musician. I look forward to receiving your continued submissions.
