Hi David, i downloaded the HarpNinja Diatonic app on my iphone. In settings I'm wondering what the TunerMode is and what it does and also, what does it mean when the green arc goes right, just past the note you're playing? Sharp or flat? I seem to be consistent with most of the holes no matter how I try to alter my approach. Thanks

Hello Paul. When the green

Hello Paul.

When the green happens to the right, your note is slightly sharp. You can ignore this, most models of harmonica are tuned slightly sharp. The idea is that this is to counterbalance the tendency to play notes of the harmonica slightly flat.

I don't have the iPhone version, and on my laptop version there is not an option for TunerMode. Check out HarpNinja's website https://harpninja.com/video-help/. If they don't have a tutorial on this, contact them, they're very responsive to customer questions. Share with us here what it does when you find out.

Great thanks, I think this

Great thanks, I think this makes sense in that this morning I tried again and felt I needed to constrict the air flow by closing up the back of my throat to get the notes in tune with the app, which seemed counter to dropping the tongue and relaxing the jaw. I'll try and find out about the TunerMode on the app later today. Thanks again for the insight about harmonica tuning.

Don't adjust for the tuner

Don't adjust for the tuner Paul.... and definitely don't "constrict the air flow by closing up the back of my throat." Play the harp with a big, open tone. The tuner app has its way of registering your standard note as sharp... ignore that. With this said, the bending feature is accurate for our use, so do go for the green block on the notes you're trying to bend.
