Have I just ruined my Super Chromonica 270 deluxe?
Hi Kinya,
I treated myself to an ultrasonic cleaning machine for christmas. I have just dismantled my 270 deluxe and put the parts into the ultrasonic machine only to discove that most of the windsavers are now detatched and or moved. Also, when I dismantled the 270 there are a few bits that I have no idea where they came from.
HELP!
Thanks
Saul
Hey Scorny, Ho Ho Ho!
I am afraid you did a major Ba-Boo, almost as good as the time I left my Seydel Grand Symphony chromatic on top of my radiant heater and damaged all 64 windsavers ;o(
Without windsavers, your beloved HOHNER 270 will be extremely difficult to play. It will be as difficult as trying to inflate a beach ball with 48 puncture holes. You will have to replace all 48 windsavers.
Give me a moment and I will bring up the past articles on how to perform this "not so fun task"

Hi Scorny, the Windsavers I used on my HOHNER CX12 is exactly the same for your HOHNER 270.

Saul:
Don't feel bad. Lots of folks have made the same goof. And enjoy learning from the process (as eventually, something will go wrong with any or all windsavers in one's harps). I'm lucky to have never learned the hard way about ultrasonic cleaners and windsavers, but that's in part due to having followed various threads here on the Forum. As always, Kinya's guidance and advice are priceless. Another source would be Winslow Yerxa. Nearly 13 years ago (before my time here) he posted a link to a Hohner instruction video on windsaver replacement, at https://www.bluesharmonica.com/windsavers_0 It's a fairly regular topic in his "Ask Harmonica Expert Winslow Yerxa" thread here.
On the plus side: With Kinya as your guide, it's possible your new windsavers will be an improvement over Hohner factory installation.
Good luck, my friend.
Happy New Year Rob!

Hi Saul, checking in with you. Have you had an opportunity to perform surgery on your windsavers?

We will be waiting with bated breath ;o)

The fun begins!
TIP: don't go crazy with the adhesive. Best if used judiciously.

Excellent. I'm sure the video stressed the important of having all the Windsavers lay as flat as possible and have the proper amount of "overbite" over the tips of your reed slots.

I have reassembled it, with all parts -Phew!!!
The brown/beige paper type strips, which I assume to be the windsavers are not on the harmonica. It seems to play ok though. Is it critical that I replace them?
