High end fast
Hi David,
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes.
As part of my breathing improvement I am trying Howard Levy's, Rhythms of The Breath. I started this with pucker embouchure because, even after a year plus with you, I still find I can get better tone when playing quickly up top. I am improving but when breathing fast in and out at the top end, particularly with a C harp or above, there is a big difference between my tone puckered vs tongue blocked. I guess it will come with practice but any tips about improving tone up there in holes 8 to 10 when playing tongue blocked fast?
Thanks,
Graham
Hello Graham. It's all about your tongue positioning... your tongue is situated in a way that is causing the reeds to not vibrate freely. Focus on the middle and back of your tongue, making sure it's lowered (a slight yawn usually does the trick). Try this, and then in front of a mirror, pull the harmonica out of your mouth (keeping everything in place) and visually confirm that your tongue is lowered in the middle and back. Think large, warm, delivery of air through the harmonica. Work on this and report back.
