Hitting the Wall on Rhythm.....Garys Blues
David,
Up to this point I have not learned to count out rhythm... and have got away with it for the most part.:)
Now on Garys Blues...3rd Chorus there are 3 long held notes..I, IV and V chords..later to repeat...
in 5th Chorus..first measure and V chord..
try as i might......no way can i get it right....without knowing the count...and learning to use it.
otherwise I come in too early or too late and I blow the rest of the song...i will be off the beat.
I might have to stop and start all over from the begining...Lesson 1
any suggestions......
Thank you!
Steve
You have to count those long-held notes. Take a look at http://smu.edu/totw/rhythm.htm to get an idea of note values. I'll help you with the 3rd Chorus. The first 4 draw in that chorus is held for 4+3 beats (it's better to count to 4 for the first measure and then count to 3 for the second measure so you can keep track of where you are in each measure). So, in this case, you hold the 4 for the first measure and then hold it for three beats of the second measure and leave on the 4th beat with the bend. Practice this over and over with the provided track, you'll get it.
A side note, if you're not sure how long something is held per the notation, listen to the music and count how long a note is held.
