How to play like Jason Kincheloe?
Winslow --
I posted this on the New Music forum but, while I've had some folks reading the post, I haven't received any answers thus far. Can you help?
Hey All --
So I'm wondering if you all are familiar with Jason Kincheloe who plays with Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds. I saw them a year ago at the High Sierra Music Festival and was just blown away by his playing. Truth be told, he was the one that turned on the light bulb to pick up the harmonica.
If you aren't familiar with him, you can YouTube him and find some good videos of him playing. To me, he is doing lots of different things with the harmonica -- at times, playing a riff that would likely otherwise be played by a lead guitarist; and, at other times, horn lines, call-and-response with his sister (the lead singer), and mroe.
If you are familiar with him, here's my questions. I am currently working on my Level 5 material with David via BluesHarmonica.com. In your opinion, what are the things I should be listening to and/or working on to be able to approach what Kincheloe is doing? As well, what kind(s) of gear might I need to get his sound?
Thank you, in advance, for any help/insight you can offer!
Erik
Hi, Erik.
As far as gear goes, why don't you ask Jackson himself (note: it's Jackson, not Jason). He's on Facebook and seems like a nice enough guy that he'd discuss his rig with you.
I'll check on Level 5 when I have a bit more free time and also on a bit of Jackson's playing and see what I can offer. (He was at the SPAH convention a couple of years ago, but just to hang, not as a featured performer.)
