HRT-10 Suzuki repair kit
Hi Kinya,
i have been watching the repair videos on tuning etc and much appreciate all your in depth advice. Thank you!
i had a friend pick up an HRT-10 Suzuki tool kit while in japan. its an expensive kit, but my friend owed me for some work, so we did a trade, worked out well.
i love using those tools as they seem to be very precise in punching the holes in the reed plate and reeds, especially since Suzuki uses welded reeds.
i am wondering if that tool kit can be used on other harmonicas other than Suzuki? I used it for my chrome Suzuki G-48.
if I remember correctly, the Hohner plates may have hole already in the plate? Same with the Hohner reeds?
Have you any experience using the HRT-10?
Marty
Ah Marty--you lucky dog!
The HRT-10 tool set is classic Japanese precision tooling. I saw it at the Suzuki Musical Instrument factory when Andy Just and I visited Mr. Manji Suzuki ...
I find the Suzuki reed punch tool to line up perfectly with a #52 clearance hole for the reed pad of the Hohner reeds as well. This is important when replacing rivets (or spot welds) with 0-80 screws, because it allows clearance from the outer diameter of the threads ... nothing more irritating than having the reeds twirl on axis, as you tighten down the 0-80 screw.
As for the rest of the tools in the kit, such as the jewelers files and screwdriver--sure, use them on any harmonica.
Have fun!
Your Harpsmith, Kinya
