Improving tonal qualities
Im putting in the hours to improve and I am doing so. My technique is much improved. I am not doing well in replicating the tone you demonstrate on the videos. This is mostly apparent on the draw tone. For example 2, 3, 4 draw.
What are your recommendations for improving on this weakness? Is it possibly somewhat instument related? Im playing a Hohner Blue Midnight. Im betting you play some very sophisticated harps.
Is it simply evolution of chops? I recall when I was a kid an started playing the clarinet. The tones were horrible but in the hands of a skilled musician the clarinet can produce deep throaty tones.

Evening Gary. The model of harmonica you have is a good one.
Yes, you're right, tone will develop over time... it's one of the elements that develops with a focus on good technique and shaping of one's sound with deliberate experimentation. The key elements are...
1) Open Embouchure - Use a slight yawn (this opens the throat, lowers the jaw and tongue [the tongue is the most important element here] and raises the soft palette to close off the nasal cavity... all of this helps to create a large resonant chamber for tone production.
2) Use a light touch with your tongue and lips on the face of the harmonica
P.S., If you would like to experiment with an upgraded model of harmonica (in my opinion the best model made today), then try the Hohner Crossover.
