iPhone and iRig
I recently got an iPhone4 and was checking out some apps when I came across this Ampltube app which is for guitar player to use different amps, effects pedal, recording, different spkers combos etc lots of options they sell this adapter called iRig that allows for your 1/4 in jk to 1/8 in into iPhone and also gives an 1/8 in jk out for headphones (or external recorder. Anyone use this? Haven't heard it mentioned for harp, but why not!?
Thanks!
Short video from YouTube where I use AmpliTube and iRig with a bullet and a 545 for my first attemp on a Harp video.
Couple of questions -
Harperl - I'm not seeing anything posted here (the video). Is there a link?? More importantly, how satisfied were you with what that set up gave you?
Secondly, has anyone tried the iRig Mic that looks like an SM 57??
Has anyone tried the Apogee JAM Guitar Input?? Looks similar to the IRig but costs way more.
This whole area of recording on the laptop/iPad while "on the road" is fascinating. ANd the more I read about Garage Band for the iPad, the more it looks better for my limited use than the desktop version. Any comments from those that have tried it??
Hank, I have Garageband on my iPad 2. Unfortunately, I've been traveling so much, I haven't had time to dig too deep into it - other than just playing around. I can say however, that this is not a toy. From what I've seen so far, Garageband for iPad is a very powerful program. So much so that I'm going to sit down with a friend who's an expert on the program to teach me all about it -- when I get the time to breathe.
In the meantime, you might check out the presentation that Apple's Xander Soren gave at the kickoff event earlier this month:

I'll give you an update when I go through this thing, but then again, by that time, you might be already up to speed on it yourself.
Picked up an IRig at the Apple store when we were south last week. Found out I had to add the $9.95 Four Track to the Amplitube app so I could import a backing track and then record on a second track. But I did use the IRig with a Bottle of Blues mic and then a bullet mic. It worked with no problems with headphones attached. Importing the BT from the playlist on my IPhone crapped out the app each time but importing over wi-fi from the computer was very easy and smooth.
I haven't tried to export the track yet and have to experiment more to learn how to use the fx. I'll keep playing with it but the main thing is the IRig works with a mic into the Amplitube app.
jj - Keep us posted on your IPad2 and Garageband stuff.
I do use a pocket pod express, which I link to my android phone to practice with slowed down play along tracks, I see the utility to have 1 device that makes it all (I use the bendometer, the seydel free app for pitch and so on)
There are many apps missing anyhow for the android market (like irig, garageband and amazing slow downer)
I would like to know if someone have used both the pocket pod and the irig to understand if the irig is way wroste or if it is more or less as the pocket pod
I bought this for my son and it works well. I didn't try it with a bullet mic, but would assume it to work fine. If you use the distortion channel you'll most likely get feedback through your headphones.
